Brief Overview of Train Shetland

Train Shetland was formed in July 2002 to streamline the services offered to the public. It has two main areas in which it operates: Vocational Training in the form of Skillseekers and Modern Apprenticeships and Short Courses.

Train Shetland is an equal opportunities training provider and assistance and guidance is available on request.

Vocational Training

Train Shetland is the largest organiser for Skillseeker and Modern Apprenticeships in Shetland with over 30 different programmes available. They currently provide training for 200 people who are in employment whilst undertaking training leading to nationally recognised qualifications.

In November 2003 Train Shetland was voted Training Provider of the Year at the Scottish Modern Apprenticeship Awards which recognised the diversity of the training they offer.

In November of 2005 Train Shetland won the Highland and Islands Enterprise Gold Award at the Annual SQA Awards Ceremony held at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow for the second year running. This award recognised the innovative approach to fulfilling small and rural business training needs by providing them with access to SVQ's.

Short Courses

Train Shetland (Short Courses) organises courses on behalf of Shetland Islands Council, and for the wider business community.

The main areas Train Shetland (Short Courses) offer course in are, Health and Safety, First Aid, Administration and Management, I. T. and Food Hygiene.

Courses vary from a half-day course to an eighteen day course.

Train Shetland (Short Courses) will also tailor courses to suit individual requirements of you or your company, and we will investigate delivery of courses not currently being offered in Shetland.
