| About us |
At Train Shetland (Vocational Training), we manage and co-ordinate modern apprenticeships. We currently have up to 170 trainees at various stages of their training, either on two or four-year programmes.Train Shetland is part of Shetland Islands Council's Education Service. We seek to make a contribution to the local economy through the management of modern apprenticeships and vocational training which meets the needs of employers and young people. Each year we receive applications from school leavers and other individuals looking for vocational training and employment opportunities. We also receive requests from local employers seeking to recruit new trainees. We pass on applicant details to employers and, when the recruitment decisions have been made, we hold induction meetings and agree an individual learning plan for each new trainee. Our commitment to the Government-sponsored training programmes has been demonstrated by the various awards that we have won over the years: SQA Gold Award Winner 2004, 2005 and 2006, and also Training Provider of the Year Award 2003.
