Specialist Technical Solutions, based in Sandwick in the Shetland Islands, is in the market for a vehicle bodywork apprentice. As a well-established company recently moved into new premises, but with decades of experience in many trades, STS’ opportunity is an exciting and varied one. Their state of the art 600 square metre workshop is fitted with some of the latest tooling, some of which is entirely unique to the Shetland Islands. Whether it’s restoring a 1960s Ford, insurance repairs, tuning on our Chassis Dyno, or carrying out complex wheel alignments, there are few quiet days at STS.

What’s on offer?

- A full apprenticeship in motor vehicle body repair and restoration on all types of vehicles.
- Block Release Training at a UK mainland college
- Close working and in depth training from our body shop team who between them have decades of knowledge and experience.

- Out-of-hours activities and projects should the applicant wish to participate.

Roles Included:
- Assessing vehicles; crash damaged; in need of restoration; requiring custom alterations and modifications.
- Assessing what level of repair is required, panel repair or panel replacement for example.
- Removal of damaged or corroded panels or sections of bodywork.
- Identifying the best course of action and completing the repair in an efficient and timely manner.
- Preparing bodywork ready to be painted.
- Painting sections of bodywork or entire vehicles to very high standard.
- Welding repairs, alloy wheel refurbishment, comprehensive rust removal and treatment, advanced rust prevention techniques.
- Specialist coating / treatment.
- Detailed recording of work completed and the usage of materials and time to do so.
- Maintaining a safe and tidy working environment in keeping with the high workshop standards at STS.

Who are we looking for?
- We are seeking an individual with a keen interest in the motor vehicle repair trade. Someone hopefully with a passion for motor vehicles, and a great desire to complete each and every job to the highest standard.
- Bring an eye for fine detail and accuracy. Taking pride in a job done to a high standard is a fundamental attribute to anyone working in this position.
- Punctuality is key, from arriving at work on time to working to tight deadlines, someone who is accurate in their time management is of primary interest.
