Hairdressing Level 2 and Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship



Typical duties include:

  • General cleaning
  • Shampooing and blow drying
  • Taking bookings
  • With experience, students move onto cutting and styling hair, tinting/highlighting etc
  • You will also gain experience of dealing with the public and work colleagues

Description:

You will spend three x three-week blocks per year at Elmwood College in Cupar in Fife. There you will learn different duties - starting with reception through to cutting and colouring. While at Elmwood, you will gain practical experience working in the busy college salon. Your tutor will assess your practical abilities, as well as ensuring you understand the theory behind it and achieve the underpinning knowledge side of the qualification.

To achieve a Modern Apprenticeship you need a further year's experience in the salon, along with workplace tutorial support.

Duration:

The SVQ Level 2 MA programme will take a minimum of two years.  The Level 3 MA will take a further one to two years.

Delivery:

  • Block release to Elmwood College
  • Work place assessments
  • Closed book assessments
  • Compilation of Portfolio of Evidence and workbooks

Qualifications you will acquire:

  • SVQ Level 2 MA Hairdressing
  • SVQ Level 3 MA Hairdressing

Personal qualities, skills and qualifications:

  • Standard Grades in English, Science and Maths are recommended
  • Applicants should have good communication and people skills, be physically able for the practical work involved and have manual dexterity
  • An artistic flair and interest in fashion would be an advantage
  • Applicants must have a pleasant manner, smart appearance and high standard of personal hygiene
